Our Best Instructors set to return for High Season

We are pleased to announce that our best instructors from last season are hoping to return again this season. Ben (otherwise known as French Ben), Ari (or Mexican/French Ari) and Dave (Tech Dave) are all set to return this season.

This is great news for us as these guys have a wealth of training and guiding experience as well as hard to beat knowledge of the dives around Koh Lanta. We are really looking forward to the return of these guys for what we hope to be our best season ever. If you are coming to the island why not consider completing a Underwater Naturalist or Fish ID Adventure or Speciality Dive with these guys, you will definitely learn a lot.

Laurent and I are also hoping to get in the water and teach occasionally so I look forward to seeing you soon.

Blue Planet Shop Brighter and Better for Season 2009/2010

During low season, Ben and Mellisa have discovered they have a new talent; painting! During June and July they have redecorated every room in the shop, a very big job!!!

Ben told us “Low season is quiet this year, so painting the office has kept me out of trouble!” The office is now the same colours throughout and our fantastic logo can be seen throughout.

“Dave’s Cave at the back of the shop is transformed” said Mellisa “ we wanted to create a proper space for all of his specialist technical and caving equipment as well as area suited for equipment maintenance. We have also improved the kitchen facilities and created a specialist Freediving room.”

“We are also going to update the outside of the shop but will wait till the end of September so that it looks spectacular for high season” Laurent commented.

Just how good are you at Photography?

Want to find out? We are planning the first Underwater Photography Contest in Koh Lanta at the End of November 2009. We look forward to seeing some great reflections of diving around Koh Lanta.

“Underwater photography is such a growing sport and we want to encourage novices as well as professional underwater photographers,” Laurent told us. Laurent is still finalising the details, so we will release more in a month’s time. In the meantime if you want further information, contact Laurent directly on blueplanetdivers@gmail.com

Just bought yourself a digital underwater camera? Thinking of buying one? Or want to improve your Underwater Photos? Then contact us, many of our instructors are Underwater Photography Speciality Instructors and can offer a very good basic course for beginners and we also have some very talented photographers that can offer more bespoke courses for those looking to improve.

Clean Living

As you are all aware, Blue Planet Divers is an Eco Resort with Project Aware and we are committed to protecting the underwater environment we love so much. So once again in September we will be supporting the Greenfins and the Project Aware initiatives to clean up the beaches and waters surrounding Koh Lanta.

Last year we organised the clean up of Klong Dao Beach and could not believe how much and what we picked up that day. Over 270kilos of Flip Flops!!!!!! It was a great day and we all really enjoyed ourselves as well as doing something really positive for the island and the environment, so if you are here in September, be sure to join us.

Sled Freediving is here

Last year was our best ever year for Freediving Courses and saw the success of our Freediving Competition (which we intend to run again at the beginning of February).  So this year we are improving our facilities by creating a dedicated Freediving Training Room and offering Sled Freediving.

For those of you who have never heard of this, most Freediving disciplines require the diver to use either fins or to swim down, whereas Sled Freediving uses a Sleigh to pull the diver down. This saves energy and enables the diver to achieve greater depths.

Why not gain your AIDA Freediving Qualification with us this high season, every guest we had last year was so impressed with what they were able to achieve with just a few days training.

And one final bit of news from Blue Planet...

Kai, one of our Thai staff from the office has just had a beautiful baby girl, congratulations on your new family Kai.
