Blue Planet Apnea is the only professional AIDA freediving Centre based in Koh Lanta, Thailand. We have a large dive house with rooms and all freedive center features. We care about creating Instructors who are very employable, fun and knowledgeable. Our Freediving Instructor will assist you through your course and celebrate with all other members your success. Our IC classroom is fully air-conditioned as well as a Wi-Fi service that is, by the way, available throughout the entire Blue Planet Divers Centre.
Our Freediving AIDA Instructor Course (IC)
Koh Lanta pro freediving Program IC with Blue Planet Divers Apnea
We offer more than the minimum 7 days course, with our 10 days program.
Our open water dives will be conducted during day trips to the beautiful marine parks of Phi Phi and Koh Haa. If candidates have time, we will fun-dive these beautiful reefs where encounters with black tip reef shark, leopard shark, turtles, trevallies and other amazing marine critters are quite common.
We offer more than a simple IDC!
The IC will be conducted in English, so we expect our candidates to be fluent in English and to be able to discuss complex topics in that language.
An Instructor course is not the place where the candidates learn to dive, it is where they learn to teach and where they also validate performance requirements that they already mastered.
Scuba Gear
We need our freedive students to get their own gear! You would have to perform deep skills, cross your limits or organise safety with our students. It's always important in freediving to know your equipment. We can provide you with good deals on retail or spares in our shop.
Instructor Course Schedule
Schedule order might be changed depending on Course Director requests.
Trough the course, candidates will learn how to teach class room theory. They will simulate teaching aida2 and aida3 pool sessions, as well as open water sessions. Koh Lanta pro freediving Candidates will learn how to conduct a training session, how to teach and to assess Frenzel equalization, mouthfill, how to teach preparation and relaxation etc..
5 days out on the boat to open water sites.
3 pool sessions (over 2 days) 8 theory sessions.
Eight classroom theory presentations by the IT, and exams sessions for the students.
Performances Required
At least -40m to -50m comfortable dives in both constant weight (bifins) and free immersion.
A “long dive” of 1mn30 to -30m in CWT, and of 2mn to -30m in FIM.
A least 5 dives to -20m with a minute interval (CO2 resistance).
Various simulated rescue drills including rescuing a Blacked out freediver from -25m.
Performing a 4mn to 5mn static breath-hold in swimming pool.
A dynamic performance of 90m in the pool (bifins).
Teaching skills and giving feedback to real or simulated students, in pool and in open water environment.
Some simulated classroom slide presentations, and a final “special presentation”. (We will propose you a subject way before the course, so you will have time to do research on your subject).
Course Prerequisites
Therefore, we highly recommend training before attending the course. The requirement to enter the course are to be an Aida4 diver and to have proof of attending a CPR course within the last 24 month. For those holding an equivalent certification from another training agencies, the candidate must attend an aida4 cross over prior to taking the course. Blue planet divers has also EFR CPR courses available if necessary.
There is a gap between aida4 and Instructor course, so candidates are expected to reach easily -40m in constant weight and free immersion prior to attending the course. They shall also have trained Dynamic without fins and constant weight without fins before the IC.
To take this course, you must:
Be fit for freediving - see medical certificat.
Be at least 18 years old.
Have completed the AIDA 4 course or have completed the AIDA 4 Crossover Evaluation if crossing over from another freediving agency.
Have a EFR valid (less than 24 months).
In case you need to refresh/complete your EFR, you can take the Emegency First Response Course class with us.
Our Course Director
Our Instructor trainer Marc Guerrin is a highly experienced instructor. He has been teaching Aida courses since 2007 in Indonesia, Philippines, Egypt, Mexico, and has been an active instructor Trainer certifying many instructors in the last 2 years. He teaches in English and in French.
Very well known in this world! Marc focuses on personalized training and generally works in small groups and conducts all parts of the IDC training himself. He ensures he is available at all times throughout the IC to give his candidates lots of personal and individual attention.

Staying in Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta is a 30km long beautiful island in the Andaman Sea. Although tourist life is mostly located in the north-west of the island, there are resorts all the way down to the west coast.
Beaches are stunning and costs of living on the island are relatively cheap. We have excat;y what you need for a short stay atOur Dive House
We also recommend that you rent if you decide to explore Koh Lanta during your free time. This is essential if you want to travel around the island and get to work on time! It is also the cheapest method of transportation here. Prices for renting a manual motorbike start at around 200 THB per day and 2000 baht per month, but expect to pay up a bit more for an automatic one.
Be careful though! Motorbikes can be dangerous in Thailand so try to get a full face helmet with the renting shop.
Eating out here is really cheap and you will quickly realize that you will do that for most of the nights. You can order a good Thai meal for 60 baht, while Western food will start at about 150 baht. Many of our Divemaster trainees share houses with kitchen and cook their own food. It is very fun to stay and exchange cultures with new friends who have the exact same passion. However, remember that we are providing breakfast, snacks and lunch on our daily trips.
If you decide to stay a bit longer and in order to stay for a long term on the island, you’ll need to arrange your Visa outside of Thailand. We really encourage you to apply for a 2+2 Visa which will allow you to stay here for 6 months (2 months upon arrival, extendable of 1 month in Krabi immigration, then another 2 months after a visa run with 1 month extendable again). Applying for visas before you come will save you a lot of time, money and energy. It is simple to apply for this kind of Visa from your country. Most of Thai Embassies deliver visas within a few days.
If you can get only a simple 2 months entrance Visa and wish to stay longer, no worries, it will take you only 2 days to acquire a new Visa in Penang, Malaysia.

4 March 2020Together with my son and daughter we booked a day dive trip to Koh Haa, Hin Muang and Hin Daeng, with Blue Planet Divers. Although a bit expensive (specially after Koh Tao), we were very satisfied with the high quality of their service. The office staff were kind, friendly and helpful with information in both english and french. Highlights: catamaran trip to dive sites with tasty food and enough space to chill and admire the beautiful landscape * well maintained equipement * Koh Haa is a must! With caves, extraordinary biodiversity and a gorgeous setting. Thanks to Yann, Johan and Fins for their diving support. Highly recommended!

I just did my open water diving licence there and the guys from the Diving Center are doing a very professional job (they are not overwhelmingly friendly or funny, I... read more felt like they keep a professionelle distance)
, everything went on really fluent, the boat trip to the spots was enjoyable (thanks to the anti sea-sickness pills from the Diving Center), the food was delicious, the thai staff was extremely friendly, and the dives have been nice! I did the course because I am/was really afraid of deep water, the sea, swimming... I always felt like water is just not my element. With all the knowledge I got and my very calm and sophisticated teacher (thanks Raf) I managed to go down and keep breathing. From Dive to dive my fear shrunk and I could enjoy my experience. The only thing what I was missing was a long wetsuit as I started freezing at the end of every dive.Stay08598734055
