True Nature Island

Koh Lanta are the largest islands within the National Park of Trang. This archipelago consists of more than 50 islands, many of which being uninhabited. It comprises of 2 islands, Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai. These islands were initially settled by sea Gypsies. Today, many of their descendants still live in different villages on the island. Most tourists head towards Koh Lanta Yai, largest of these two islands situated furthest in the West. It is a location of various resorts and the best beaches along the west coast. These beaches offer beautiful sand, clear warm waters and stunning sunsets.

Koh Lanta has managed to retain much of its original charm being much less commercial than many other Thai destinations. There is definitely a much more relaxed approach to life on Koh Lanta and many tourists find it difficult to leave. With over 26km of beaches on its west coast, Koh Lanta is in a position to offer accommodation that will suit everyone. This includes romantic getaways, family holidays and backpacker huts on the beach (Hotels & Resorts). Cool drinks are available from beach bars during the day and at night there are plenty of bars and restaurants, both Thai and European, to suit every pocket (Bars and Restaurants).

There are over 10 beaches on Koh Lanta Yai, starting from Long Beach (Phrae Ae), a 3km stretch that offers a beautiful coastline and plenty of beach bars. Further south, Kantiang Beach is a stunning secluded beach in the south of the island.

Divng is great Koh Lanta is ideal for both novice and experienced SCUBA divers. Here, the Andaman Sea is warm, clear and overall diving conditions are excellent. Koh Haa situated to the west of Koh Lanta offers a beautiful lagoon for freediving beginners and snorkelling. There, you can visit caverns and swim-troughs for the more experienced divers. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang located on the far South of the island are World Class destination sites providing an opportunity to see large pelagics.

There is plenty for everyone on Koh Lanta. Most activities are including canoeing in the mangroves, elephant trekking, cave walking, and jungle treks, islands hopping, boat tours or just walking to meet local villagers. One of our favourite end of day activity is sitting at one of the many beach bars and watching the sun go down.

A Bit of Story

Old Town and Sea Gypies

Not more than a 20 minute drives from the main tourist areas, the “Old Town” and the “Sea Gypsy Villages” offer a more traditionally Thai and certainly less touristy destination! Life here is much more about fishing as you can see from the number of Long-tail boats secured alongside traditional beautiful wooden homes.

Meet them!

Sea Gypsies are the original inhabitants of Koh Lanta and their traditions and cultures are thousands of years old. Traditional handicrafts are available here. As well, there are some great Thai restaurants that extend out into the Mangroves where you can enjoy lunch and fresh drinks.
